AGM and talk the reintroduction of Pine Martins

Followed by Suzanne Kynaston from Wildwood Trust will give us a talk about the South East Pine Martin Restoration Project. Pine martins are one of our mammals that is critically endangered in England and Wales. This is largely due to the widespread loss of its woodland habitat, and widespread hunting and trapping by gamekeepers. Today, they are a rare sight in the wild.

Talk maladroit mothing
Dr Andrew Crowson will be giving us a talk about moth trapping. This will be a fun and light-hearted talk in which he wants to share some of the joy that moth trapping has brought into his life. It will not be a scientific treatise but hopefully it will inspire everyone present to take a closer look at the wonderful moths around us and to go out mothing.
Talk about Badgers
Martin Newcombe from the East Kent Badger Group will be giving us a talk. Martin founded this group and is also Chairman of the Kent Mammal Group. The badger group provide advice for the public, farmers and educational material. Badgers are relatively common but rarely seen as they are nocturnal. All too often the Badger and its environment are harmed by man (by accident or deliberately).

Talk about Bumble bees
Simon Springate Kent Plan Bee Project Officer will be giving us a talk about bumble bees. Simon is a long term member of the Kent Field Club and The Bumblebee Conservation Trust. His work includes Kent Plan Bee which is a pollinator action plan covering Kent https://www.kent.gov.uk/environment-waste-and-planning/nature-and-biodiversity/pollinators/kents-plan-bee-pollinator-action-plan The Bumble Bee Conservation Trust was founded in 2006, to address serious concerns about the future of wild bumble bees. There have been multiple projects focused on habitat improvements. They also run BeeWalk. There will be a display about their work in Faversham Visitor Centre during July.

Talk Stodmarsh National Nature Reserve
Stefan Barton the reserve manager for Natural England will be giving us a talk about the management. A National Nature Reserve has the purpose of protect the nation's most important wildlife habitats, rare species, and geological formations, while serving as outdoor spaces for scientific research and public enjoyment. This is a site the group have visited many occasions in the past and so an opportunity to gain greater insight into how the reserve is managed. The reserve covers a square mile and has the largest reed bed in the south east of England, which supports a range of specialised birds and insects.
