Details: a walk round the reserve for seasonal interest. There should be many birds, wildflowers and insects on the reserve. Bitterns have been heard on site, marsh harriers are fairly common. The reserve covers important reed beds, fens, ditches and wet grassland (grazing marsh) and open water. There are some hides on the reserve. Parking: Voluntary car parking charges may be paid in advance or on the day using the RingGo app. Cash donation boxes are sited in the car park (CT3 4BA).
Car sharing: is encouraged as the car park is likely to be busy on a Saturday. Please reply to this email if you can offer a lift or if you need one. Also, the route through Canterbury is affected by the closure of the Westgate Towers, causing tailbacks onto the roundabout at the Victoria Hotel. Use the Littlebourne route – it is longer in distance but the Canterbury traffic can be avoided.
Accessibility: The beginning of the pathway from this car park is a purpose-built, compacted stone pathway with seating at regular intervals and periodic passing places – (one accessible route), as well as access to the Reedbed Hide for wheelchairs, motor scooters and push-chair users. The remaining parts of the reserve where we will go are unmade mown paths which can be uneven.
